PRIMUS

We meet two primuses in the high school of life—blasé, untouchable, too cool for school. Rolling out like hell on wheels, their cold war soon escalates into a duel for dominance. The finale? An explosive crescendo that’s anything but digestible for the faint of stomach.

Primus is a performance created in 2021 with and by Jasper D'Hondt and Rosa Tyyskä. In 2026, it will be restaged with Rosa-Maria Autio and Jarno Vanthuyne.

WE WANT YOU!

MAKE CIRCUS, NOT WAR

Throughout history, a unique symbiotic relationship has existed between circus and warfare. For our new creation, we are using this remarkable connection as a starting point.

The working title of this creation is "We Want You!", a reference to the American propaganda campaign featuring ringmaster and clown Dan Rice as Uncle Sam. We’re also using the subtitle "Make Circus, Not War", because that’s exactly what we intend to do.

You can expect a refined outdoor show featuring Russian cradle, acrobatics and the reinvention of the human cannonball. We steer clear of current conflicts and focus primarily on creating a performance that envisions a better world.

THE RACE

Modern life is a fast-paced race shaped by tech, consumerism, and constant pressure. We juggle jobs, relationships, and self-improvement in a system that values productivity over well-being. Metaphorically speaking: we’re stuck in a rat race, spinning plates just to keep up. That’s exactly what this project is about.

We all know the classic plate-spinning act: an artist keeps plates balanced on numbered sticks while the audience shouts which one needs attention. It’s a perfect metaphor for modern life.

In this project we want to bring that metaphor to life. Instead of numbers, our sticks are labeled with real-life tasks: work, bills, hobbies, social media, friends, etc. The audience becomes society, shouting demands at a frantic little rat, running to keep everything from crashing down.

Our goal? To expose the absurdity of our daily hustle and make people reflect. Or, to put it metaphorically: we want to hold up a mirror — and smash a lot of plates while we’re at it.
